The True Drivers Union have served notice that despite the order for all drivers union to reduce transport fares by 10%, effective 1, August, they won’t reduce theirs.
According to the union, the new percentage will negatively impact their business.
The decision to reduce fares comes after a call by by the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers Ghana (COPEC) following the President’s decision to lift the restriction placed on commercial vehicles in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
However speaking on Accra based Class Fm, public relations officer of the union Mr. Barimah said they are prepared to be jailed by government because they have no intention to reduce transport fares.
He noted that the other transport unions who were at the meeting to accept the decision to have transport fares did so on partisan lines.
“We won’t reduce any transport fare, we can’t allow some few people go and decide for us” he added “since we reduce the number of passengers in our cars who help us, when prices of fuel went up who paid for us”.
