Mahama Ayariga has urged the majority in parliament to allow for an open contest so as to appreciate the details of a motion he has filed against a constitutional instrument from the EC for the compilation of a new voters’ register.
CI 126 has been in Parliament for 8 days out of the mandatory 21 sittings days required for maturity.
The Minority contends elimination of birth certificate and current voter ID cards as proof of nationality for the compilation of the new register is an affront to the Constitution.
But even before the motion is accepted by the speaker, some majority MP’s have described the motion as mischief and useless.
They argue that the motion is part of a grand scheme by the opposition NDC to disrupt the upcoming December polls.
Speaking on Accra based Joy Fm, the Bawku Central MP, called on the NPP MP’s not to make the motion an NPP versus NDC fight but rather attend to it with an open mind.
“They shouldn’t make this an NPP, NDC fight” he said.
