General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah has warned that there will be relentless resistance to the compilation of a new voters register should the Electoral Commission pay a deaf ear to their warnings and go ahead with the registration exercise.
“We are in for a long fight” a reply he gave to the question “the EC has served notice it will begin with the registration exercise, it appears you have lost the fight” on Accra base Joy News.
The NDC has vowed to use all legal means possible to compel the EC to rescind its decision of compiling a new voters register. According to the party, the exclusion of the current voters ID card as a primary requirement for registration onto the new voter roll, indicates the commissions bias to rigging the elections for the incumbent.
Meanwhile the Electoral Commission (EC) has released a set of precautionary measures to be adhere to, once registration for the new voters register begins.
The exercise of compiling a new voters register had to be postponed due to the unforeseen outbreak of the deadly coronavirus pandemic.
But as time keep passing, with no end in sight to when the pandemic will be dealt with, the EC is determined to begin the exercise regardless the dangers the pandemic poses.
