Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a leading member of the ruling New Patriotic Party has bashed the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for accusing the Electoral Commission (EC) and the National Identification Authority (NIA) of conniving to rig the 2020 elections for President Akufo Addo.
He wrote on his twitter page “Here in Ghana the main opposition party does not get it. Ghanaians are losing their jobs, especially those working in hotels and restaurants, all because of Covid-19, and what the NDC cares about is a fake conspiracy to have a new enhanced voters register to rig the Dec polls”.
The NDC believes that both the EC and NIA are working together to deliver victory for the incumbent in the upcoming elections.
The opposition party say the alleged rigging agenda by the NPP, using state agencies was initiated since the assumption of office of President Akufo Addo.
“While we continue to rally round the Ghana flag to support government in this difficult time, it does appear that the Jean Mensah led EC ably supported by the Ken Attafuah led NIA are only interested in rigging the 2020 general elections for President Akufo Addo and the ruling New Patriotic Party through voter suppression in NDC stronghold”.
“Clearly a conspiracy between the EC, NIA and President Akufo Addo to rig the 2020 general elections. It is a kind of conspiracy that has plunged many countries into chaos and instability. We in the NDC do not wish this for our country hence our constant warnings” NDC’s national chairman Samuel Ofosu Ampofo said at a press conference.
Meanwhile, the NPP has responded to the NDC, saying they don’t need the EC to rig the elections for them, rather their numerous achievement over the three years that they’ve been in office are evident for electorates to give them a second chance.
