National Democratic Congress member of parliament for Tamale Central, Alhaji Inusah Fuseini, has bemoan the adverse effect the ban on importation of savage cars will have on certain professions in the country.
According to him, the impact the ban will have on sprayers, mechanics and spare parts dealers, as well as others who are in the automobile industry will be unbearable.
The Customs Amendment Bill was passed on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at the second reading stage in Parliament.
Per the Bill, the government will stop the importation of used vehicles that are older than 10 years and salvaged cars.
However, the Ranking Member of Parliament’s Constitutional Committee is against the implementation of the law, citing economic difficulty to professions aforementioned.
“This law will cripple certain businesses and I think there is the need to protect those jobs because if you ban the importation of savage cars, automatically the sprayer is taken out of business, people at Abossey Okai will also be affected” he said on Accra based Neat Fm.
